Near the camping La Rivière, Forcalquier is a typical Provencal perched village located about 8 km from the campsite. With a little less than 5000 inhabitants and sixth largest town in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, the village has the reputation of having the purest sky and air in France, or even in Europe”.
You will be dazzled by its magnificent panorama from the citadel located at its summit. Built on the site where the château des comtes de Forcalquier once stood, you can discover the magnificent little chapel of Notre-Dame de Provence dating from the end of the 19th century, as well as one of the very rare carillons with 18 bells in the open air of Provence. It allows every Sunday and on the occasion of the main celebrations, to let its melody be heard using the traditional punching game.
You can also visit its cemetery classified among the most beautiful in Europe, its cathedral Notre-Dame du Bourget.
